► Introduction:This vibrant orange coloration of calcite is caused by microscopic inclusions of hematite (iron oxide) within the calcite. Rather than the larger rhombus formation, this find formed in a microcrystalline structure and has a lovely sparkle in the right light.
Calcite is composed primarily of calcium and carbon with inclusion minerals helping to determine the coloration. Calcite is common in Earth's crust but can vary tremendously in form, pattern and color, including polymorphism.
